Bio

After earning degrees in Law and Economics from South Africa’s Stellenbosch University, Mark Patterson immigrated to the United States to pursue a career in business. He began working for a commercial bank while simultaneously earning his MBA from NYU Stern School of Business. Mark then transitioned onto Wall Street, working for firms including Salomon Brothers, Bankers Trust, and eventually Credit Suisse, where he served as Vice Chairman of the Global Distressed Securities Group. In 2002, Mark and David Matlin founded MatlinPatterson, which independently spun out of their group at Credit Suisse. Today the firm has raised approximately $9 billion in aggregate. Mark serves on the Board of Directors of Fund II portfolio company Gleacher & Company. He also serves on the Deans’ Executive Board of the NYU Stern School of Business.
